How many wheelie bins do you have?

Currently, we have four. All which go out with their contents to be collected on varying weeks of the month.

Now, I have no problem with doing our small bit to be good stewards of God's creation. It is good that we are recycling - and probably more than ever.

My difficulty is remembering when each wheelie bin goes out!

I know that a leaflet is produced by the council - colour coded - so that we can work out the order. But the problem is that the schedule is buried beneath a plethora of other information on the fridge door!

I know I can download a calendar of the order onto my phone - but I am too lazy to do that!

So what do I do?

Well, on a Sunday night before the bins are collected on the Monday - I look out of the window and I see what the neighbours have put out! I simply rely on them to get it right - and copy them! And maybe this is what you do too!

I am grateful to good neighbours who are better organised than me.

I often wonder what would happen if the person who was first to put their bin out got it wrong. Perhaps you would have whole streets of people who have put the wrong bin out - and a lorry full of puzzled refuse collectors!

It led me to think about how in life we often, wittingly or unwittingly, follow others.

Who we follow is really important. It determines the path of our life - it affects our other choices. Ultimately it affects our destination.

Jesus says to his disciples: 'Follow me!' and Christians believe that following him leads the right way and to the right destination.
