Largs and District Stamp Club had a Scandinavian flavour after the Viking Festival.
Dr Dow of Lanarkshire Philatelic Society covered the history of stamps in Norway.
The club was treated to a fascinating display, starting with the first Norwegian stamp (SG1) with a variety of the different postmarks used.
The posthorn design, first issued in 1872, appeared often and is the oldest stamp design still in use, with slight modifications.
Of special interest were stamp essays of 1912 and 1914, plus trial prints and a variety of labels up to modern personalised stamps.
The second round started with the Nobel Peace Prize Centenary set of 2001 and a run through modern designs to 2012.
The display concluded with a superb display of stamps issued for local postal services which were licensed up to 1913, including those for ships visiting the North Cape and Svalbard.
President, Willie King gave the vote of thanks for a memorable evening.
Their next meeting is a visit from members of the Dundee PS on Wednesday 9 October at 7.30pm at West Kilbride Community Centre.
