Anyone for Beans?
Two entrepreneurial shop assistants in Millport recently raised the sum of £58.07 for Cancer Research by asking customers of Hamiltons Newsagent to donate 5p to guess the contents of a can which was missing its label.
For two weeks generous customers shook the tin can and threw their money into the jar that Anna Stewart and Olivia Hamilton had placed on the counter.
Countless times each day they were quizzed about the contents but the girls remained tight lipped until the big reveal was made on September Weekend Saturday.
The result? – it was a can of 40p Euroshopper Beans!
Graeme Hamilton who owns the shop said: ‘I’m so proud of the girls and their outstanding ability to turn what was a worthless tin of beans into a real event in the shop.
"They engaged with all of our customers and had the whole shop full of laughter, debate and sleuthing.
"To raise nearly £60 is phenomena! from a can of beans!
"They were chuffed to bits to be able to donate the money to Cancer Research UK."
