North Ayrshire Council are to become the first in the UK to introduce free 'birth to potty' nappy packs to help reduce costs to parents.
The scheme, which could save families up to £1300 per child, will offer packs of reusable nappies to families.
There is already a scheme in place which provides a free trial pack, giving new parents the chance to see what suits their baby best.
This pack consists of three, free reusable nappies in various styles, two waterproof wraps, biodegradable liners and a handy laundry bag.
However, now parents or carers who use the trial pack will also be able to request the full new ‘birth to potty’ pack, containing 20 birth to potty nappies, biodegradable liners and a laundry bag.
It is also hoped to encourage parents to make the switch to reusable nappies, reducing the environmental impact of nappy waste by 40 per cent.
