Largs and District Stamp Club went on an African expedition during one of their club nights.

One of member Bill Clark's main areas of interest has always been East Africa, and for the evening's display at West Kilbride Village Hall Bill had put together a miscellany of the varied items that he had amassed over the years.

The evening was highly entertaining with a wide variety of topics covered.

In the first round Bill covered WWI in East Africa, undelivered, under-paid and returned items, telegraphs, telegrams and radio cards, and the Empire Flying Boat Service.

In an equally varied second half Bill started with items from WWII with censor marks, dumb cancels and ENSA, Italian POW / internee camps, the Mau Mau troubles and flowns covers from the 1950s onwards, finishing with Kenya independence covers and stamps from 1963.

A hearty vote of thanks by Robert Watt was endorsed by an excellent turnout of members.

The next meeting, the last for this year, is a Members' Xmas Special on Wednesday 18th December.

All are welcome and further details can be obtained from the secretary, David Rossall, at davidrossall@sky.com
