Gale force winds hit Largs throughout Sunday morning as road closures and a fallen tree on Brisbane Glen Road has caused traffic disruption.

The A78 between Largs and Skelmorlie closed at high tide while trains have also been cancelled. The coastal road has now re-opened.

The Noddleburn also burst its banks resulting in a dramatic scene captured by Ian Dalgleish above.

Ballochmartin Bay road B896 in Millport  is flooded in places and motorists are urged to avoid if possible - also White Bay area on the island is flooded due to overtopping.

Dramatic video footage of the waves crashing off the coast was filmed by Ian Dalgleish. See below.

Despite the high winds, the Cal Mac ferry managed to continue operating, while areas including Mackerston Putting Green and Aubery suffered from flooding.

The Stagecoach 585 bus from Greenock just made it through Skelmorlie on the way to Largs for midday before the A78 road was closed.
