LARGS is to get a pizza the action again after restaurant chain Tony Macaroni announced it will reopen in the town this year.

There was uncertainty around the restaurant's future after it closed at the end of the summer, with the owners looking to rent the space out for events such as birthdays and anniversaries.

Tony Macaroni runs the restaurant side of the Nardini's building in Greenock Road and Nelson Street, but the venure has been running as a seasonal operation in recent years.

The latest closure sparked rumours about its future, which online speculation that it was closed for good.

The pizzeria chain closed its doors over the winter for the second year running, with some staff moving to the new Tony Macaroni in Irvine.

However the company announced this week that Tony Macaroni in Largs will re-open on Thursday 19 March.

The pizzeria restaurant, opened within Nardini's building in 2009, was rebranded as Ristorante 1890 for a couple of years, before the Tony Macaroni name returned.

Tony Macaroni, is owned by Viva Italia which is run by Sep Marini, who also owns Nardini's Cafe.

A spokesman for Tony Macaroni said: "We are an seasonal business in Largs and just like last year we plan to reopen again in the spring.

"Tony Macaroni Largs reopens on in mid-March.

"Real Italian food is returning to Largs and we could not be more excited."

The news is a boost to the local restaurant trade after a number of blows in recent months.

The nearby Morris's Restaurant in Gallowgate Street, which was rebranded as an upmarket seafront restaurant, closed its doors and is expected to be sold at auction in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Anaya's Indian Restaurant, which only opened a year ago, had to close its doors on Hogmanay after experiencing a problem with its roof.

The ceiling within popular seafront eatery Anaya's collapsed because of an issue with water.

The gutted owners told the News that they are 'working hard' to try and get the first floor restaurant open again 'as soon as possible'.
