The Cal Mac ferry service between Largs and the Isle of Cumbrae has been affected by a technical problem.

The ‘News’ understands that the MV Loch Shira, which recently returned from its annual maintenance check, has suffered a ramp problem.

The problem resulted in the earlier 6.45pm service not running either.

The ferry returned to service shortly afterwards with vehicles having to reverse on/off the ferry.

However problems have persisted with Community Councillor Crawford Gillan tweeting at 8.47 to Cal Mac: “We have been sitting aboard the ferry for two hours. No idea how long they expect folk to sit on the ferry without providing any info whatsoever or advising whether they can step ashore for food and a hot drink etc.”
