Nearly 100 supporters and volunteers turned out in absolutely atrocious weather support the RNLI SOS (Soup on Saturday), writes Cathy Holgate.

There was driving rain, bitterly cold winds that were so strong that those attending had to hold on to one another to help walk round the church to the hall, but that didn’t put off the stalwarts who came to give their support.

Once inside, there was a welcoming warm bowl of soup and other goodies to be chosen from the menu, and an opportunity to meet and chat to friends.

It is said to be the busiest of the annual RNLI events with much planning beforehand, and the hardest working for several hours on the day with a number of items on the menu to be served individually.

So the fundraising committee want to thank all those involved in whatever capacity—to the volunteers who helped by making cakes and worked hard in the kitchen and served at the tables. Also those who manned the various stalls and competitions. There is thanks too to those who donated prizes for the substantial and successful tombola and to Calmac for vouchers.

All the food was welcomed and commented on especially the soups donated by the Willowbank Hotel and Nardini’s so thanks to them and to Morrisons for the rolls and to Café Guzzi for other goodies.

Most of all, our thanks go to the people of Largs and the surrounding area, and their friends and relatives for their continuing support to our raising funds to ensure the work of the RNLI crews to continue -many of whom have been dangerously busy in this stormy weather.

This is what makes it all worthwhile because despite the influence of the weather, a total of £800 was raised.
