A Skelmorlie nursery has won a £300,000 windfall from North Ayrshire Council to boost its facilities.

Early Years group in Largs and Millport have benefitted from extra investment in the new North Ayrshire budget - to ensure our children 'get the best possible start in life'

Investment in education will continue to be a key focus for North Ayrshire Council over the coming years to support delivery of 1,140 hours of early learning and childcare which rolls out fully this Autumn.

Centres in every district will be refurbished to accommodate the expansion and provide the best learning centres possible for our young people.

A list of funding allocated to early years centres is as follows: West Kilbride Early Years £184,927, Skelmorlie Primary Early Years £305,352, Fairlie Early Years £163,008, Cumbrae Early Years £60,864 and Largs Campus Early Years £38,000.

Council leader Joe Cullinane said: "At the heart of the programme is a commitment to ensure North Ayrshire’s children get the best possible start in life.

Centres in every part of North Ayrshire will be refurbished to accommodate the expansion and provide the best learning centres possible for our young people.

"Education is a central part of our Capital Budget, from early years right through to secondary education.

"“It’s important that we offer the best quality of education we can to our young people but it’s also important that we do it in an environment which helps them to nurture and grow."

Asked why the Largs fund was only £38,000 compared to larger sums handed out to other early years groups throughout the district, a council spokesman explained other areas were in greater need of upgrading as opposed to Largs Campus which was only opened two years ago."
