The NHS have praised islanders for following social distancing advice coming from the government, and has urged everyone to 'be sensible'.

In a message to Cumbrae residents, the team which work at Lady Margaret Hospital in Millport said: "We would like to express a special and big thanks to the community for adhering to the government guidelines in regards to self-isolation and social distancing measures.

"This has had a very positive impact on the available NHS resources and helped to not only keep our staff safe but able to remain working.

"To ensure this remains the case please continue to follow the government guidelines to minimise the spread of COVID 19 within the Isle of Cumbrae.

"We remain a 24 hour service, and would like to assure the community that there will always be someone on hand to answer calls and give advice.

"However, please don't put our staff and other patients at risk by attending without having spoken to staff via telephone.

"We appreciate this is a very distressing time for everyone within the community. However, we must stress that as a community hospital on an island we are limited to resources and transfer options both day & night.
"Please continue to be sensible."
