The Millport branch of Royal British Legion (Scotland) has closed their premises.

Merchant Navy Parade and VE Day Celebration in Millport, both scheduled for May this year, have been cancelled.

Chairman Scott Watson said: "With national measures in place to prevent further spread of the virus likely to increase, particularly for those deemed to be in demographics at high risk, RBLS Millport will be taking action to help prevent spread locally and to help protect members, staff and visitors.

Under the guidance of Legion Scotland we have made the difficult decision to temporarily close the branch club premises on Reid Street until further notice."

Events further in the season are currently being reviewed.

Scott added: ""These are difficult and uncertain times, however RBLS Millport will continue to operate as a branch supporting our local veterans, emergency services and members throughout.

"Please take care of yourselves and each other, and rest assured we will be opening the doors again as soon as it is safe to do so.

"Please do not feel alone at this time. If you require assistance, have self-isolated, or need someone to talk to either myself or Pam can be contacted via phone or email - Scott Watson, email: scott@countryreach.com - phone: 07788797015 and Pam Fleming phone: 01475 530687.

Please take care of yourselves and each other, and rest assured we will be opening the doors again as soon as it is safe to do so.
