A brand-new service which aims to deliver free food to families in need is now in full swing.

North Ayrshire Council’s Facilities Management staff have been working round the clock to get the food packages ready for eligible families.

And the first deliveries are being made today (Wednesday, March 25) and will continue to roll out in the days ahead.

In total, more than 2,000 families have registered for this vital support which will see Council staff deliver packages of ingredients and some basic recipes during what is a very challenging time.

Councillor Jim Montgomerie, Cabinet Member for Place, pictured, Largs and Millport Weekly News: said: “This has been a monumental effort and it’s incredible that this scheme has been put in place in a matter of days.

“Having been involved in this project and seeing first hand how the committed the team is, I can’t thank them enough for the efforts in making this a reality and ensure households which might otherwise struggle get the support they need during this unprecedented period.”

The first round of deliveries will see more than 850 families in different localities across North Ayrshire receive food and recipe packages. Please note that packages may vary depending on supplies available. If you are eligible and have registered for the scheme but not yet received a package, don’t worry, we will reach you.

In total, almost 2,200 households have signed up and the Facilities Management team will reach those families with further deliveries in the days ahead.

To take part in the scheme, eligible families must opt-in by registering with the Council.

The service is aimed at those who have a child or children eligible for free school meals and/or in receipt of a school clothing grant.
