Cheers and applause were ringing out around Largs, Millport and the North Coast in support of our amazing NHS health and care staff on Thursday evening at 8pm.

Streets including Simson Avenue in West Kilbride, Laverock Drive in Largs, Hollyrood flats, and Keppenburn in Fairlie had large rounds of applause, whistling and cheers in scenes replicated across the country. The Isle of Cumbrae shared in the applause with scenes near Kames Bay.

Readers told the 'News' that the scenes were highly emotional as people stood outside their homes in a show of support for our health workers who are on the frontline as the world battles against the Covid-19 pandemic.

P.Dee, of Skelmorlie, said: "As one of the many NHS workers in our wonderful village,  thank you, also we would like to thank you for staying in and following the guidance which eases our caseloads and saves lives."
