NORTH Ayrshire's citizen of the year has quit as the island's 'Cludgie Cleaner' the News can reveal.

Flamboyant Suki McGregor - who provided daily video blogs as she visited the various public conveniences around the island - made a name for herself by sprucing up the local loos with flowers, soap and various other decorations.

Her efforts were praised far and wide, leading Suki to the citizen of the year honour at last year's Provost Civic Pride awards.

Cumbrae Community Development Company manage the public toilets on the Isle of Cumbrae and intend to put the contract out to tender when normality returns.

Suki said: "I got a call to say that all public toilets would be closed for the foreseeable future due to the Covid-19 situation.

"They then told me that they were reviewing the cleaning of public toilets going forward and that they would be using volunteers and putting the contract out to tender, so I put my wellies and overalls in the bin.

"I wish my successor good luck. I hope they have a strong stomach as the Fintry Bay public toilets doesn't have enough of a water supply and it regularly has to be unblocked.

"I don't know why they have decided to put it out to tender but I am disappointed."

Suki's 'Bog Vlogs' interviewees included First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Suki said: "I have been doing the job for around four years - the bog vlogs proved very popular.

"I have to thank the amazing amount of people, shops and businesses who supplied donations to spruce up the toilets.

"I love the island and am proud of the place where I live and the contribution I've made."

Suki's live video sessions also provided an insight into the waterworks on the island.

Her imitable style won her support and followers locally and all over the world while a replica doll of Suki has even been created and put on sale by a local firm.

The public toilets include Cumbrae Ferry Slip, Fintry Bay, West Bay Football Field, Pierhead, Garrison House ‘Bomb Shelter’ and Crocodile Rock.

The Cumbrae community's loss is a gain for Barrfields Theatre in Largs, with Suki now working there as a theatre promoter.
