Scottish Greens MSP Ross Greer has called on the Scottish Government to ensure frontline emergency workers are issued with essential personal protective equipment such as masks urgently.

The West of Scotland list MSP has been made aware of concerns that frontline staff in NHS Ayrshire and Arran, care staff, police officers and fire fighters are not being issued with appropriate PPE.

Ross said: “We are relying on frontline emergency workers and other key staff such as social care teams more than ever during this crisis. It is only right that they are issued with the right personal protective equipment to do their jobs safely.

“We’re told there are sufficient stocks of PPE but what we’ve seen is significant delays getting this to frontline staff across our emergency services. These delays are avoidable and need ended immediately.

“The Scottish Government must also deliver on its promises to roll out testing to frontline staff.

"This has been promised for time now but until it is delivered, everywhere, there will be completely unnecessary staff absences as key workers with symptoms self-isolate despite not actually having the virus.”
