Residents are being asked to count dog poo in a bid to record the scale of dog fouling across the country.
The Keep Scotland Beautiful #turdtag initiative asks walkers and runners to count and submit a record on the number of instances of dog fouling that they find on a 100 metre stretch of local road, path or walk through a greenspace.
The scourge has been reported in Largs, Fairlie, Skelmorlie, West Kilbride and Millport.
This information will be used to increase awareness and form action to tackle one of the country’s biggest environmental complaints.
Surveys last year showed that 10 per cent of surveyed sights were blighted by dog mess.
Results can be submitted to cleanup@keepscotlandbeautiful.org by 11 May and shared on social media using the hashtag #turdtag.
