Academy coach Laurie Baker revealed that he gave a rabble rousing speech to the pupils, telling the News: “I told them that people in the central belt don’t recognise Largs other than for ice cream and a nice day out in the sunshine and that spurred them on."

Two days later, Largs Thistle also also took on the mighty Linlithgow Rose in the Scottish Cup final but lost out 1-0 at a sun-drenched Rugby Park.

In other news Largs Guides enjoyed a sports day at Inverclyde National Centre and tried out many different activities. They were pictured outside the old white hotel and reception building, while it was healthy eating week at Cumbrae Primary School as the News photographer visited.

Elsewhere the chairman of Largs Community Council revealed how he watched in horror as a huge petrol tanker narrowly avoided a terrifying collision at the town’s controversial new roundabout.

Ian Murdoch told visiting police officers that he watched in horror one morning as a petrol tanker and a car came to a halt head-on and just feet away from each other.

Everard Cole who are a commercial property consultancy group specialising in the leisure and development sector, were selling the Bay Street bar and restaurant for offers over £300,000.

St Mary’s Primary School was hosting its biggest gala day yet at the Largs Academy playing fields. There was plenty happening with bungee trampoline, bungee run, climbing wall, beat the goalie and a marshmallow catapult. Coastguard, fire brigade, police, and first responders carried out demonstrations, while Mhairi Miller, winner of Largs Has Got Talent, performed for the crowds.
