THE owner of Room and Lounge in Largs told how he has worked to save jobs amid the coronavirus crisis.

Stephen McDonald has brought back his carry-out menu at Room - and added beer and cocktails.

He told the News he was forced to think 'outside the box' as lockdown threatens to crippled the hospitality industry.

He said: “With 35 staff and two businesses to protect, we had to think smart.

“People were missing a nice cold pint and a nice cocktail so rather than put it down the sink, it made sense to add it to our carry out service.

“It has proved very successful and been great for special occasions."

Stephen says customers have rallied round to support the business.

He added: “We have a large staff and we want to secure all of their jobs.

“The feedback and reviews have made it all worthwhile and we are enjoying providing a service again.”

Staff have also been providing live cocktail demonstrations and live music on social media too.

Stephen added: “The customer engagement has been amazing. If only they could see the outtakes and the state of me after I’ve drank all the errors!”

Stephen has big plans for both businesses in the next few months once restrictions are lifted.

He said: “Our plans for the future are bold.

“At Room, we will continue to grow the delivery business and Lounge will start doing its eclectic street food and casual fine dining menu to go.

“We are fortunate that both Lounge and Room are big and open and will lend itself to social distancing measures when it’s deemed safe.

“We hope to bounce back with new energy and vigour."

He added: “We want to say a huge thank you for all the messages and support from the people of Largs and surrounding areas because it has been a tough couple of months."

Room’s takeaway menu is available Friday to Sunday from 5pm to 9pm, with delivery available to Largs.
