Largs councillor Alan Hill has voiced strong opposition to a proposal to open car parks in the town at the end of this week.

The SNP coucnillor has written to the Chief Executive of NAC, Craig Hatton, objecting to the lifting of the ban which has seen car parks including the Vikingar! and Portencross closed throughout the lockdown.

Alan said: "I am firmly opposed to the opening of Largs car parks this weekend.

"The relaxations which are proposed from Thursday are minor in nature. Opening the seafront car park suggests that Largs is open for day trippers - we are not !

"In my opinion we need to wait at least a week, or more, to see the effects of the initial relaxation before we do anything like consider opening car parks.

"This a step too far at this stage and frankly there is no demand for it either.

"I have been in contact with the council and the Chief Executive to confirm my strong opposition to this proposal."

Councillor Ian Murdoch revealed the plans earlier today, and had urged caution. He said: "This is not an invitation for people to ignore the Governments Advice and Regulations.

"I hope that only local people will use them as restrictions are slowly eased.

"I would like to highlight to everyone that Public Toilets will remain closed and there are no other toilets available. Please consider this if you are planning to be out."
