FALLING tiles caused a section of a busy street in Largs to be closed off as fire crews attended.
Scottish Fire and Rescue teams closed a section of Gallowgate Street on Monday amid safety fears.
One local said: "The middle section of gutter and roof tiles came crashing down on to the pavement at the Ladbrokes betting shop beside the pedestrian crossing.
"The roof edge was still dangerous, pieces were falling off on Monday morning.
"It wasn't ideal for with pubs and cafes opening and the road being partly closed off."
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 1.20pm on Monday to reports of an unsafe structure on Gallowgate Street, Largs.
“Operations control mobilised two appliances, including a height appliance, and firefighters removed loose guttering and tiles to make the area safe.
“Crews left the scene a short time later.”
A North Ayrshire Council spokesman said:" We were made aware of this issue by a member of the public and attended on Monday afternoon.
"A section of guttering and some slates have fallen from the building.
"This has initially been made safe by Scottish Fire and Rescue and section of the footway has been closed off by Scotland Transerv.
"The bookmakers has been temporarily closed until such times as their maintenance team can attend and carry out further checks and repairs."
