Three Largs swimmers are the pride of the pool after being selected for Scottish Swimming’s national talent programmes.

The teams run across a number of levels and take on the most promising youngsters from North Ayrshire Swimming Club.

Largs youngster, 13-year-old Isla Waller, pictured, has been picked for the district regional programme, which is the first rung on the competitive ladder.

Fraser Kelly, 17, has retained his place on the youth development programme and para swimmer Abby Kane will continue on the national youth squad.

Coach Alan Dickson says he is delighted for Isla and says she steps up every year to make sure she is the pick of the bunch.

He said: “It’s the third year running Isla has made the cut, which speaks volumes for her attitude and application.

“Each year the qualifying times get harder, but Isla steps up gets the work done and being selected this year is recognition of that effort.

“This is a great opportunity to learn and develop supported by a range of talented coaches and some top swimmers.”

2020 has been a record year for North Ayrshire Swimming Club, with nine athletes winning places in the teams, including seven selected for the district regional programme.

Alan believes that without the disruption caused by Covid-19, which ended training and competitions, the club could have done even better.

He said: “I know had the season ran to its conclusion there were other swimmers who would have been joining these seven at DRP this year.”

“The progression is clear for all to see and that’s the key for us all until we get back to the pool.

“Lets keep working and going forward.”
