A TALENTED young artist from Fairlie has been brightening up journeys along the A78 after painting a cheerful mural outside her house.

Faye Conway, 16, has been entertaining residents and passers-by for ten years with a succession of large-scale paintings next to the busy road.

The college student, who is studying interior design, is hoping her work brings some positivity after the last few months of lockdown.

She said: “I knew that this painting would hopefully cheer people up because of what’s happened with the coronavirus.

“I haven’t had much to do for the last few months, and I’ve been doing it for ten years now, so it’s just become a regular thing.

“People like it and I’ve spotted people taking photos of it, whenever I paint a new one I hear people beeping their car horns as they go by.”

Faye says nature has always been her inspiration and whilst it usually takes her a day to paint a new mural over the old, lockdown allowed her to take her time with her latest piece.

She said: “I like painting flowers and I knew I wanted to incorporate that, generally it’s always nature influenced, and I try to match the painting with the season I paint it in.

“The first time I painted it I did a seaside theme, and it’s usually always been nature related ever since.

“This one took me about three days, I decided to spend a bit more time on this one but I had the free time.”

The teenager is hoping to study architecture at university in the next few years and says she has always had ambitions to be creative.

She said: “My mum is reopening her framing workshop and I’m going to be using half of the space as an art studio

“I’ll be able to sell some of my art there, I do a lot of large-scale stuff, lots of buildings and a bit of abstract as well.

“I’ve wanted to do something in the arts for quite a long time, I was always drawn to architecture because I am also interested in the engineering side of it.”
