YOUNGSTERS at Largs Colts have returned to training at Bowencraig - with the club hoping to take over the operation of the facility in the next few months.

Following a long break from football due to the pandemic, two of the club’s eight age groups have resumed training on the park, with the remaining sides to join them in the coming weeks.

Management are optimistic that Bowencraig will soon be under their stewardship - with the Colts having ambitious plans for the site.

Eddie Morinzki, Colts president, said: “It is a wonderful opportunity for both the Colts and the wider Largs Community to determine the future of Bowencraig.

“We are hoping all the players' parents will become members of the community club and there is nothing stopping the surrounding area supporting the proposal as well.

“Over the years I have always been pleasantly surprised by the generosity displayed by the town when it comes to the Colts since they were formed 45 years ago.”

The club will undertake a community asset transfer from North Ayrshire Council which will see the land gifted to them for a minimal fee each year.

Plans are in place to work alongside local companies and organisations to make key changes to the park, including improving the playing surface and replacing the current changing facilities.

The Colts currently have teams from age groups 2005 to 2013, however are hoping to add 2014 and 2015 teams in the future, with an all-girls side also in the pipeline.

The club would be delighted to hear from anyone who would be interested in getting involved and would also welcome any representations regarding the community asset transfer of Bowencraig.
