A LARGS woman has slammed the ‘sick individuals’ who destroyed her four-year-old niece’s fairy garden in an act of mindless vandalism.

Cerys Wilson says that the miniature garden at the child’s home in Largs' Eastern Avenue was her young niece's pride and joy.

Kind-hearted individuals and businesses have been quick to replace things that were stolen and destroyed but Cerys says the whole incident has been upsetting for the family.

She said: “My mum woke up and went to let the dogs out in the back garden, only to find the gate lying wide open.

“She noticed a few solar lights missing so she went to investigate and found my niece’s fairy garden had also been destroyed.

“There were items stolen and some were lying broken on the ground. Her fairy lights were pulled down and ripped apart and her fairy solar lights and miniature figures had been stolen.

“It was very upsetting because they targeted her wee garden and left the more expensive stuff, which was odd. They event went to the effort to stamp on her wooden fairy house and break it to bits.”

Cerys says they have so far managed to hide the incident from her niece, but says the family remains shocked at what has happened.

She said: “We are very angry but mostly upset.

“If she was good my big brother would leave her a present in the fairy house and she thinks it’s the fairies themselves.

“She wouldn’t understand what’s happened. We had to tell her that the fairies were rebuilding and redecorating because she preparing to go into primary one.

“She loves it and will be so upset at what has happened.”

Cerys has praised kind-hearted locals who have stepped in and rebuilt the garden through donations, pictured.

She said: “The people of Largs have all chipped in and replaced every item that was stolen or broken, Hayley Stores donated lots of stuff, which was so kind.

“I didn’t expect that response from people, it has really touched us, and we still have people dropping stuff off all the time.

“My faith has been restored with the number of messages and comments I’ve had from people wanting to help."
