A LARGS mother says she is overwhelmed after a moment of kindness helped her heartbroken daughter replace a lost ring.

Four-year-old Olivia Boyd and her cousin Holly, six, were bought matching rings from a jewellery stall at the Saturday market in Gallowgate Square - however the youngster lost hers on the shore.

Her mother Laura asked for the community’s help on Facebook to spot the ring but was shocked when the jewellery stallholder offered to give her another for free.

Laura said: “My sister had my daughter and my niece at the market. They spoke to the lady at the stall and she had two rings left, so the girls got them.

“We went off to get ice cream and went down to the seafront, Olivia was so excited about the ring she had bought.

“It was on and off the whole day, but when it got to bedtime she realised she didn’t have the ring and she was so upset.

“We went down and opened the box and the ring was gone, I don’t know at what point she lost it."

Laura posted an appeal for help Facebook to help find the missing item and was contacted by market organiser Rosemary Giovino and Councillor Ian Murdoch, who both wanted to help.

The Little Threads business owner said that the Largs Events group would pay for a new one, but Catherine Gribben - who served the girls - said she would replace it for nothing.

Laura says she is overwhelmed by the support from local people and thanked Catherine for her goodwill gesture.

She said: “It was really heart-warming and special to see all of these people trying to replace the ring for my little girl.

“I tried to pacify Olivia before all these people came together to try and sort it. She didn’t have it for very long, but she was in tears when she realised it was gone.

“Olivia thinks the new one is the original. It’s just a lovely sentiment for everybody to come together to try and help."

Catherine, who travels around businesses and markets selling her jewellery, says it was the right thing to do.

She said: “I remember the two wee girls coming over to the stall, they picked the exact same ring and it was my last two of that kind.

“When I got the message from Rosemary, I ordered them the rings and I was quite happy to gift it to the little girl for free.

“I was happy to help as a gesture of goodwill.”
