Largs lifeboat launched a full scale search of the bay near Skelmorlie after reported of a yacht in danger.

On Sunday September 7 at 5.15pm, Largs volunteer lifeboat crew launched in response to a request from UK Coastguard to attend a small yacht reported to be in difficulty around half a mile offshore near to Skelmorlie.

The lifeboat was soon in the area where an extensive search both of the sea and the shore was undertaken.

RNLI spokesman Alasdair Woods said: "As there was no vessel fitting the description, or in difficulties to be found, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station where she and her crew carried out the Covid 19 protocol de- contamination procedure.

"This call out stemmed from a member of the public who thought they saw a yacht in difficulties, dialled 999 and asked for the Coastguard who in turn called the RNLI Lifeboat."
