MILLPORT Field Studies Centre has been shortlisted for a national award.

The centre and its staff have been nominated for the Nature of Scotland Business Award for their work connecting visitors with the island’s coasts and waters.

Other nominees in their category include Scotrail for their biodiversity campaign and Hebridean Adventures.

Alex MacFie, head of the centre, said: “I am genuinely delighted that FSC Millport has been shortlisted for this prestigious award.

“My team have worked incredibly hard over the last few years and especially recently when it has been particularly challenging with the guidelines prohibiting so many residential activities.

“Team Millport have pulled together to look after all of our customers and support each other, and I think this is well deserved and timely recognition for their efforts.

“We continue to offer residentials for over 18’s, and day teaching for under 18’s and welcome enquiries from any groups who would like to know more.”

FSC Millport engages with over 14,000 learners each year through field courses, workshops and public events, and is seen as a world leader in marine education and research.

More than 5,000 young people visited the centre last year to learn about the island’s coasts and waters, with scientific investigations for university students and rockpools for school pupils.

Professor Pete Higgins, Chair of Field Studies Council, said: “It’s fantastic to hear that FSC Millport has been shortlisted, especially in the category of coasts and waters.

“As a marine education centre, FSC Millport prides itself in connecting people with our oceans and coastlines.

“There are loads of ways to engage with our coasts and waters at FSC Millport, whether you are a student, family or professional scientist.

“Check out our upcoming field courses and events schedule to see how you can get involved.”
