The Largs branch of TSB will close in April next year as part of a raft of cuts across the UK from the banking giant.

The branch is just one of 73 closing over the next year in Scotland as the company reacts to a dramatic shift towards digital banking.

Residents will now find the nearest TSB branch in Greenock’s Oak Mall, with Irvine High Street also being spared from the cuts.

The company says 94 per cent of customers can travel to a branch in 20 minutes or less, with a new average of 17,000 customers for each.

Around 850 jobs are set to be lost across the UK as the company closes 164 branches, however it is not known if any of these will be in Largs.

Debbie Crosbie, Chief Executive of TSB, said: “Closing any of our branches is never an easy decision, but our customers are banking differently – with a marked shift to digital banking.

“We are reshaping our business to transform the customer experience and set us up for the future.

“This means having the right balance between branches on the high street and our digital platforms, enabling us to offer the very best experience for our personal and business customers across the UK.”

The bank has said it will introduce around 50 mobile advisors in rural communities for face-to-face banking queries and support customers who cannot travel to other branches.

The Largs branch had already had it’s opening hours cut down and was only open to customers two days a week, and it will officially close on April 2
