A football development group which has served the community for two decades is to fold.

After almost 20 years of serving the Wemyss Bay community and surrounding areas, Ardgowan Football Development made the decision due to health and safety factors and ongoing restrictions due to the Covid19 situation.

A club statement on Ardgowan's facebook page read: "With Covid-19 affecting most sporting events and clubs, opening, we the committee at Ardgowan Football Development have made a heart wrenching decision to fold.

"We came to this decision as we thought the health and safety of everyone involved was paramount and if and when we did get back restrictions would still be in place to some degree and running the club In the same vein would not be the same.

"The good news is that the Ardgowan Thistle teams will run as a stand alone club.
"This will be taken on by a new committee led by Neill Forrest & Stuart Davidson."

Details will be announced later with a new Facebook page starting up once the development page comes down.
The group added: "The Ardgowan FD Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped, sponsored and been part of the club over the last 19 years or so.
"We just want to say that this decision did not come easy but hope the compromise by handing over the Thistle part of the club to the new guys will keep the community spirit in the club."
