A FAMILY have launched a fundraising mission to mark the life of their globally-known Millport matriarch who died in March.

Gordon Armour, an internationally-renowned spiritualist medium, has launched 'The Rainbow Legacy' - a way to keep the memory of his mum Mary Armour alive.

The well-known islander was the founder of the White Rose Fellowship and her spiritualist gift saw her lecture and teach all over the world.

She also conducted a service on the QE2 and published a book on another Scottish medium, Helen Duncan.

Sadly Mary passed away in March this year, just a few months short of her 80th birthday, at Inverclyde Royal Hospital following a short illness.

Now Gordon, along with daughters 28-year-old Stephanie and Georgia, 22, is hoping by helping Scottish charities and honour the life of his mum.

The 49-year-old told the News: "Over lockdown, I've been hosting 'Q&A with the medium' evenings, sometimes with over 4,000 viewers at a time.

"My mum was an avid fundraiser and often used her gifts to help both local and national charities, so we decided to start 'The Rainbow Legacy' to allow us to continue her work in her memory.

"She used a rainbow as her emblem on all of her business cards and letterheads, so thought it would be the perfect name for our fundraising effort."

Gordon's first event in Mary's name took place on Monday evening over Zoom, with the family inviting charity donations.

Gordon, who is a business development officer, added: "I watched a Co-op advert on the television and at the end it said not every child in Britain would have a meal that night.

"That really struck me as I'm in the position where I can provide for my family, but it was so upsetting that not everyone can. So our first aim will be to help local foodbanks.

"They are constantly in need of items, even things like soap and toothpaste which sometimes can be forgotten about, so I really want to raise as much as possible.

"These evenings will be a regular thing."
