Two Largs Academy youngsters have been left jumping for joy after a successful showing at a national athletics event.

Harris McNicol and younger brother Innes travelled to Hexam to compete in the multi-discipline event, with both athletes shining on the national stage.

Talented first year Innes came second overall at the event with personal bests in the high jump and hurdles.

The North Ayrshire Athletics team member is top of the outdoor high jump rankings for the whole of the UK, and third for the discipline overall.

Second year pupil Harris, also a member of North Ayrshire Athletics, gained four new personal bests in hurdles, shot put, long jump and high jump, coming sixth overall at the event.

Gerry Cavani, faculty leader of health and wellbeing at the school, has praised the efforts of the boys despite the current challenging times.

He said: “We are very proud of the boy’s achievements at Largs Academy. They are competing so well within school and across the country.”
