Hotspots of coronavirus cases in North Ayrshire have been shown in a new interactive map, with areas of Largs having the highest rate of cases in the North Coast.

The new tool from Public Health Scotland shows the number of positive cases in the last seven days and the seven-day rate per 100,000 of the population for each area.

All areas in Largs and the surrounding towns and villages have had less than five cases between September 27 and October 3.

Public Health Scotland categorises any area with less than five cases as having between one and four to ‘protect patient confidentiality’.

Largs North and Largs South have had between one and four cases during that period, with the latter having a much lower seven-day rate per 100,000 of the population.

The north side of the town has had a rate of 75 to 99 per 100,000, whilst Largs South registers a rate of between 50 and 74.

West Kilbride and Seamill has also had between one and four cases in the last seven days, with a rate of between 15 and 29 per 100,000.

There have been no reported cases in Fairlie, Skelmorlie, and Largs Central and Cumbrae in the same time period, with all having a rate of less than 15 per 100,000.

Areas in Irvine and Kilwinning are the most affected in North Ayrshire, with some neighbourhoods in the towns having a seven-day rate per 100,000 of the population of more than 100.

North Ayrshire has recorded 84 cases between September 27 and October 3 between its 38 neighbourhoods.
