A TALENTED local artist has kept the spirit of the Waverley alive this winter through a fantastic painting of the old lady of the Clyde.

Pip Stirrat took time out from her regular paintings of cats and dogs to capture the iconic vessel in all her glory.

The 22-year-old from Skelmorlie says she has missed the boat going past her house over the last few months after it's crash in Brodick.

She said: "I hung the painting in my kitchen and everyone thought they were funny by asking why I didn’t paint the massive dent in the front!

“I thought it would be nice if someone local bought it, so it has gone to a family friend in Wemyss Bay.”

Pip, who studies rural business management in Edinburgh, says she has been amazed at the reaction to the piece.

She said: “I didn’t even know my mum had put photos of the painting on Facebook and over 300 people liked it.

“It was nice to paint the Waverley in all her glory.”
