MSP Jamie Greene has welcomed the news that thousands of households across North Ayrshire will be protected from being overcharged on their energy bills.

The UK Government recently announced an extension of the Energy Price Cap policy until the end of 2021 which will protect around 11 million UK households from being overcharged.

The Energy Price Cap shields those least likely to shop around for the best deals from being charged excessive prices, such as the elderly.

The cap has saved residents between £75-100 a year on average for typical households since its introduction last year.

The West of Scotland MSP says he is delighted that the cap has been extended, and believes it will save money for thousands of North Ayrshire residents.

Mr Greene said: “No one wants to pay more than they have to when it comes to powering our homes and I am delighted that the Energy Price Cap has been extended.

“This will save thousands of households across North Ayrshire up to £100 per year, including the elderly and most vulnerable in our society.”

“The announcement comes at a time when household budgets are increasingly stretched as a result of the pandemic and I know this will be welcome news for many.”
