NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde have sealed 17 wards within the health board region off for coronavirus patients.

Last week, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde revealed it had a total 20 "red wards" to treat patients who had tested positive for the virus, the BBC reports. 

Glasgow recorded the highest increase of coronavirus tests than any other Scottish health board, with an additional 451 positive cases.

Scotland recorded 1202 new infections yesterday, with a further 28 deaths recorded.

Latest Scottish Government statistics show 1117 people were in hospital - an increase of 17 from yesterday - with 85 in intensive care, marking an increase of three.

The total number of cases in Scotland has now reached 60,403.

In neighbouring region, Lanarkshire, a  total of 292 new cases were recorded, a further 152 cases recorded in Lothian and 91 cases in Ayrshire and Arran.

The remaining cases were spread over nine health boards.

Speaking at a Scottish Government coronavirus media briefing, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said formal confirmation on Scotland's new five-tier system for restrictions to be applied to different local authorities will be revealed tomorrow.
