Tributes have been paid to well known actor and comedian John Sessions who has died at the age of 67.

Agent Alex Irwin has confirmed that the actor whose family has Largs connections had died at his home in south London from a heart condition.

As well as a panellist on TV comedy Whose Line Is It Anyway? in the 1980s and 90s, he has featured on QI and Have I Got News for You.

TV appearances included Stella Street and Just William and film credits include 'The Gangs of New York', 'The Iron Lady' and 'Mr Holmes'.

The official QI Twitter account just tweeted: "His incredible wit and encyclopaedic knowledge played a huge part in the show's history and everyone at QI is deeply saddened to learn of his passing."

In a recent interview with the Largs and Millport Weekly News, friend and author Alan Robert Clark spoke about he had become re-acquainted with his friend for the first time in decades after they became friends in Largs.

Alan said: "John was an extraordinary and talented actor.

"He still retained quite a Scottish accent and described Largs as a magical place growing up - and recently narrated a documentary on the famous steamer ships of the Clyde."
