The Fairlie A78 roadworks near Kelburn Country Centre have been extended.

Planned resurfacing work on the A78 at Kelburn Country Park, scheduled for today, has identified an additional drainage issue on this stretch of carriageway, which appears to originate from land adjacent to the road.

An investigation has been undertaken, with the landowner’s permission, and a programme of work has been prepared; to include the drainage of the ditch from Kelburn Country Park and the installation of new foundations at this location.

Work will continue over this weekend, from Saturday 28th, to repair the drainage issue and then install a new waterproof foundation. This will allow the road to be resurfaced by the end of next week.

As ever, repairs remain weather dependent and further updates will be issued if there are any related delays.

The existing temporary traffic light system will stay in place until the road is resurfaced, but there are no plans for full carriageway closures.

An Amey spokesperson said: "We apologise for the further extension of these works but ensuring all drainage defects are repaired now will reduce the need for us to revisit this road again in future."
