Largs residents were left amazed after an iconic photo of the original owners of the famous Nardini's was posted online.

The great snap was uploaded to the Largs History Group on Facebook by Claudio Nardini.

The picture shows Sandrino, Augusto and Nardino inside the venture they opened in 1935 that would go on to be loved across Scotland.

Largs and Millport Weekly News:

Claudio captioned the snap as 'the three Italian dudes who decided to open a wee art deco cafe in Largs'.

Members of the group, who hail from Largs and across the world, were quick to share their memories of the famous family and their cafe.

Mary Mcqueen said: "Their cafe must have been so ahead of its time in Largs. Nothing else like it, even now, in Scotland in my opinion."

John Moore also had high praise for the family and their Largs business.

He said: "I will always remember the silver service in the Nelson Street side of the restaurant, staff were always impeccably turned out and one of the family discreetly floorwalking making sure everything was up to their high standard."

Helen Bain added: "Largs was transformed by the Nardini's and the other Italian families who came to live in Largs. Imagine no Nardini's ice cream, it would have been so different."

Pamela Tannahill said: "Going to Nardini's for an ice cream float was a big part of my childhood, teens and now as an adult when i'm back in Largs."

Colin Middleton also wanted to pay tribute to one of Largs' most famous families.

He said: "A dynasty with complete empathy with customers and staff. An education in hard work and customer service and an ethos for life."
