A POLICE officer was bit by a dog after responding to reports of an illegal house party in Johnstone. 

A woman was charged following the incident. 

Cops were called to a home in Spateston Road in Johnstone on Friday afternoon after receiving reports people were gathered in apparent defiance of the government's strict Covid rules. 

One officer was bitten by a dog and taken to hospital for treatment.

A number of people were fined and a 25-year-old woman was charged under the Control of Dogs Act (Scotland), a police spokeswoman confirmed. 

A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal. 

A police spokeswoman said: "Police attended an address in Spateston Road, Johnstone, at around 3.25pm on Friday, November 27, after reports of a gathering which potentially breached current Covid-19 restrictions.

“In the course of those enquiries, a male officer was injured when he was bitten by a dog and was treated in hospital.

“A number of people were issued with Fixed Penalty Notices.

“Police officers, like everyone else, have the right to go to work and return home safely without fear of injury.

“We have a zero-tolerance approach to all acts of violence against offices and we will investigate the circumstances of all incidents fully.”
