MORE than £5.2 million external funding has been accepted by Glasgow City Council to develop sustainable transport projects across the city.

Members of the city administration committee agreed to the award most of which needs to be invested in projects by March 31 next year.

The local authority will receive £1.3m from the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) to enhance bus passenger experience with high access kerbs and improved bus stop infrastructure.

A further £194,500 from the Energy Savings Trust (EST) will go directly towards the provision of electric bikes and equipment for Nextbike.

More than £2.7m will be received from Cycling, Walking & Safer Routes (CWSR), £683,00 from Paths for All: Smarter Choices, Smarter Places (SCSP) and £282,000 from Air Quality Action Plan (AQAP).Work on SCSP projects should be completed by May 31, 2021.

The schemes taken forward, which take account of current priorities, will increase the number of electric bikes and e-Stations within the successful Glasgow Cycle Hire Scheme and increase the provision of safe cycle routes through the continuation of the Strategic Plan for Cycling.

the Woodside area, where new pedestrian footways and segregated cycle lanes are being provided along with a number of other place-making measures.

There are also plans to encourage active travel, as well as providing more secure cycle parking facilities, through the introduction of a secure on street cycle shelter programme.

The council will look to enhance conditions for walking through, by widening and improving footways. An update on this progress will be provided in due course.
