Haylie House Residential Care Home in Largs is leading the fightback against coronavirus as the first vaccines were rolled out over recent weeks.

The historic jabs have been administered to a number of key workers at the care home including general manager Irene Smith with the remainder of the staff the residents next.

Irene says she was delighted to be first in line and says the new offers hope to local families and residents after a difficult year.

She added: "Some of the staff, including myself have now been vaccinated and the programme continues at pace

"We are well under way"

There are a total of 46 staff at the care home and 25 residents at the care home.

Gerry Condron of the Board of Trustees, said: "Haylie House have coped incredibly well during the challenging situation of the pandemic and the staff have been working very hard, like they have at all the other care homes in Largs.

"Irene was the first to have the vaccine jab, followed by other members of the team.

"Of course it is good to have such positive news after such a hard year.

"We look forward to the future in a positive frame of mind.

"We are very fortunate that we have a very loyal and hard working staff - it has very much been a team effort. Haylie House has been in the town for a long time, since 1955, and we are very proud of it and the residents are always our first priority.

"It is amazing to think that we here at Haylie are among one of the first to get this ground breaking vaccine."
