The number of covid-19 cases in Largs and the surrounding area in the last recorded week has been revealed, as North Ayrshire numbers rise again.

Between January 2 and 8, 476 positive cases were detected in the authority, with a test positivity rate of 11.1 per cent.

This is up on the 433 cases confirmed in the week prior, however test positivity is down slightly with a rate of 12.4 per cent between December 27 and January 2.

Case numbers in Largs and the surrounding area remain among the lowest in North Ayrshire, however 42 cases were still confirmed between January 2 and 8.

This is an increase on the 34 cases seen in the area the week previously between December 27 and January 2.

Largs North recorded six cases in the last recorded week, with Largs Central and Cumbrae seeing five cases, both areas with a case rate of between 100 and 199 cases per 100,000.

Largs South recorded ten cases of the virus, with a case rate of between 200 and 399 per 100,000 of the population.

The town as a whole saw a total of 21 cases between January 2 and 8, compared with 13 during the previous week.

In West Kilbride and Seamill, six cases of the virus were recorded, a rate of between 100 and 199 per 100,000.

Skelmorlie and the surrounding rural area saw nine cases in the same period, a rate of between 200 and 399 per 100,000.

In Fairlie and the surrounding area, a total of six new cases were recorded, with a case rate the same as Skelmorlie.

Saltcoats North East and Stevenson Ardeer have both recorded 33 cases of the virus in the last recorded week, a rate of over 400 cases per 100,000 of the population.

Arran recorded between zero and two cases of the virus in the same period, with the case rate suppressed to protect patient confidentiality.

Between January 2 and 8, Scotland recorded 16,312 cases of the virus, with test positivity of 11 per cent.
