West Scotland MSP Jamie Greene has warned Largs and Millport residents not to fall victim to a covid-19 vaccine scams.

Fraudsters are sending out fake text messages offering Covid vaccines in an attempt to steal personal and financial information, including through linking them to a convincing NHS website where they are asked to input their bank details to register for a vaccine.

Cold callers are also ringing people up asking them to pay for a covid vaccine over the phone, despite the fact that there is no charge for a vaccination.

Jamie said:“This vaccine payment scam is the latest attempt by unscrupulous fraudsters to take advantage of the pandemic and try to separate people from their money and personal details

“People should be extra vigilant and report suspicious activity to the relevant authority - we can’t and won’t let fraudsters win.”

"Scams have included selling fake Covid cures and low quality PPE, and attempting to separate NHS staff from their covid-19 bonus."

If you believe you have been the victim of fraud or identity theft you should report this directly to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
