WORK to resurface the pavement from Gallowgate Street to Largs Main Street has been further delayed - after road workers contracted coronavirus.

The long-awaited works were halted in early January after only being completed from Nardini's to School Wynd.

Councillor Ian Murdoch said: "Unfortunately there have been cases of Covid-19 within the specialist contractor and these are holding the project up. The workers who have fallen ill have my every sympathy and I wish them a speedy recovery.

"I have been told that the work will recommence on either January 28 or February 1.

"It is good news that the date has been confirmed to fall into this year's budget. It will all be completed by the end of the financial year.

"Although it is not the surface I would personally have chosen, it was the best surface we could get at the current time - and a vast improvement on what we had before."
