Essential maintenance on the A78 is taking place between Springfield and Largs Yacht Haven this weekend.

This weekend

There will be a full closure of this section from 8pm on Friday 19th February until 6am on Monday 22nd February for resurfacing and drainage works.

Cllr Ian Murdoch said: "The important thing is that the road will be closed tonight by the golf course past the marina to Springfield Gardens from 8pm tonight.
"The official diversion will be on the Haylie Brae which will be open."

An Amey spokesperson said: "There will still be access between Largs and Kilbirnie A760 Junction into Largs this weekend."

The SPT rail replacement bus services will be provided with access through these works.

Local access for residents will be provided under escort; and access for emergency services will be maintained throughout.

Next weekend

There will be single overnight closure of Haylie Brae to A760 Kilbirnie Junction on Thursday 25th February, between 8pm and 6am, ahead of next weekend's A78 closure. This will involve a single lane closure on the A78 with a convoy system in operation.

Apart from Thursday 25th February, the Haylie Brae to A760 route will remain open.

The second full A78 closure takes place from 8pm on Friday 26th February until 6am on Monday 1st March.

Cllr Murdoch added: "There is a closure next Thursday of the Haylie Brae and the A78 will be open under convoy, as per last night. I’ve made sure this info is updated on the website and will be re-issued. It was identified today that there was an omission in the data provided to us, which I’m afraid caused yesterday’s confusion. An investigation into what occurred during last night’s work is continuing.

"I’ve been informed that the traffic modelling for the A78 without the closure comes out at around 18mins. With the closure in place and following the diversion this increases to around 24mins according to the model.

"I know that people using these roads each day may contest this, but this is the data that has been provided to me. By the time a key worker has reached the closure and waited to be escorted through the extent of the works there journey time may actually increase.

"I appreciate that roadworks are an inconvenience but if we can complete this work now it will improve journey times and reliability for road users going forward."
