It was farewell in 2004 to the Smugglers Bar which was a popular hostelry in Largs for many years.

The building was to make way for a housing development - but had been a well known pub in the town for many years before that, closing in around 1999.

However, it was last orders for the former Nelson Street bar in February 2004 as it was set to be demolished to make way for a housing development involving a three storey block with 11 flats.
Largs Community Council opposed the plan. Fears were raised that such a flat complex was not in keeping with the character of the area.

However, Assistant NAC Chief Executive Ian Mackay disagreed - and the application was passed by North Ayrshire Council.
