West Scotland MSP Jamie Greene has called for all schools across North Ayrshire to fully reopen in two weeks time.
The Conservative MSP wants children back in schools on March 15, a month earlier than currently intended by the Scottish Government.
Under the current plans, pupils will take part in a phased return to schools, with some youngsters already back.
Mr Greene said: “Fully reopening schools should be a top priority for the SNP and delaying this until after the Easter holidays is simply too slow.
“Pupils and parents have already been impacted enough by the virus and we need to put young people first with a safe return to classrooms across North Ayrshire as soon as possible.
“Delaying this even longer will only lead to more missed learning, an increase in the attainment gap and more disruption to pupil’s lives.”
