There is a new arrival at the Hunterston Port after the United States navy ship  berthed this morning on the Fairlie side of the terminal.

It joined the two other giant drill ship vessels - Valaris DS8 and Ensco DS4 - which have been based at Hunterston since December.

The vessel's name is William McLean, named after a United States Navy physicist, who conceived and developed the heat seeking Sidewinder missile- and was built in 2011.

It was also observed on the Clyde on the southern tip of Arran on Sunday morning.

The 689-foot long cargo ship is used by the Military Sealift Command to deliver supplies including ammunition, food, repair parts, stores and small quantities of fuel to ships at sea.
