A HERO nurse says it was a 'dream come true' to be congratulated for her pandemic heroics by popstar Olly Murs on national television.

Jacqueline Doolan appeared on ITV's Lorraine Show as nurses were hailed for their efforts - and were congratulated by stars including Olly and Scots comedienne Janey Godley.

She featured with colleague Claire Millar during a segment highlighting the outstanding work done by health and care heroes from all over the United Kingdom during the pandemic.

The 39-year-old former Largs Academy pupil, who now lives in Skelmorlie, is one of the critical care team based at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

She told the News that she was delighted to receive the recognition - but insisted she was just on screen to represent her colleagues.

Jacqueline added: "I have been a nurse for many years but the last 12 months have been a year like no other. We all had to knuckle down as the virus hit here hard and fast.

"My area is intensive care, high dependency and coronary care - so it was predominantly those people fighting for life. It was a very worrying time and it was difficult to switch off after your shift.

"We are a kind and caring team at the IRH and we all did our best in very trying circumstances.

"The NHS has been around for many years but Covid-19 shone a spotlight on us - it has been a giant learning curve for all of us.

"People really came together to show their support with the weekly 8pm applause for those ten Thursdays was remarkable."

Jacqueline lives with husband Ronnie and their two children Cody, 12, and Ruby, five.

She said: "My dad Stewart who incredibly proud of seeing me on the telly and my phone hasn't stopped ringing. I didn't expect such a response as it was a short interview.

"It was really good to get the recognition for Inverclyde Royal Hospital and the amazing work which has gone on there.

"I am a massive fan of Olly Murs so for him to call us heroes left me a bit starstruck. Janey also messaged me and said that when it is safe to do she would like to come to the hospital to do some comedy, which was really nice of her."
